OBITUARIES DETAIL

James Allen Monk, Jr., Age :49

Jul 13,1968---Feb 12,2018
James Allen Monk Jr., age 49 from Independence MO, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in his sleep on February 12, 2018 at home. Jim was born July 13, 1968 in K.C. MO. Jim was the son of the late James Allen Monk, Sr. and the late Anna Arlene (Etzweiler) Monk. On May 20, 2000 Jim married his best friend Deana (Martin) Monk. They have a 16 yr old son Clifford 'Cliff' James Monk.
Jim graduated from Truman High School in 1987.
From the age of two, until he was out of high school, Jim attended Central Assembly Of God in Independence MO. Following Central Assembly, Jim went to Souls Harbor Assembly of God in Independence. Jim was service-minded and became a youth leader, was involved in running sound, and played his bass guitar.
In November 1999, he returned to Central Assembly of God, the church where he and Deana first met as children and where they were married. Jim continued to serve the church by being a Royal Ranger Leader, Senior Commander, and playing his bass guitar.
From 2010 until current, Jim and Deana were members of First Assembly of God of Independence. Jim continued with his love of guitars and music by faithfully playing with the worship team and running sound.
Jim was known for having an amazing sense of humor and always had a joke for every situation; a special "skill" he passed down to his son Cliff.
Jim was always willing to volunteer with church community activities, which included a dunk tank where he was given the nick name “Dunk the Monk” by a loving friend Todd Bowen.
Some of his favorite things to do with his son were being the first in-line at the Star Wars movies, taking him to WWE events, going to Guitar Center to dream, and just being there when Cliff got home from school.
As a couple, Jim and Deana enjoyed a quiet night at home or a weekly game/movie night with their dear friends, the Kealys, which was anything but quiet!
In the past, he would go hunting with his sister and brother-in-law Sherri & Donny Jones. They spent many hours trying to shoot either a deer or duck, which usually ended with stories of getting lost, having a leak in the boat, or just being too cold to shoot anything. In the end, they always had fun and the best stories to tell. Jim loved to tell stories from his childhood of him and Sherri fishing at grandma's “pink cabin" at the Assemblies of God camp grounds.
Jimmy leaves behind: A wife of almost 18 yrs Deana (Martin) Monk and a son Cliff, of Independence MO. One sister and brother-in-law Sherri and Donny Jones, of Grain Valley MO. Jim also leaves behind his valued collection of over 2000 ink pens.
